Community Update #4.7

News from Fr Siby

You can access the full message from Fr Siby about the return to normal for mass attendance for the fully vaccinated at this link.

World Teacher's Day
Here is a special message and video to recognise the outstanding work of our teachers and all teachers across Melbourne.

This World Teachers Day, we are especially grateful for the excellence and dedication demonstrated during the ongoing pandemic. The innovative approaches to teaching and learning, together with the continuing efforts to provide outstanding pastoral care for all students, have enabled young people to respond in the best possible way to the challenges of the past 18 months.

We welcome all children back onsite on Wednesday 3rd November

To celebrate our whole school coming together for the first time in many months, we have arranged for a COVID safe gelati van with a fully vaccinated operator to provide an ice cream for every student. Please contact the office if there any allergy concerns.

A huge thank you to our whole community for your tremendous efforts supporting children during remote and flexible learning.

All of the children have been "running'' back into school with renewed energy and vitality. They are so happy to be back in class with their teachers and friends.

Lunch orders will resume on Wednesday 3rd November.

We will continue with our COVID safe protocols and practices to limit the mixing of year levels through dedicated class bubbles, staggered playtimes and reviewed entry points close to classrooms.

Backyard Gates

Prep, Year 5 and Year 6 children will continue to enter from 8:45am through the backyard gates to go directly through separate doors to their classrooms. They will exit through the same gates at 3:25pm.

Front Yard Gates

Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 children will continue to enter from 8:45am though the front yard gates and enter through their assigned doors. They will exit through the same gates at 3:25pm.

Face Masks

The Victorian Chief Health Officer:

  • Direct primary school students in Year 3 and above to ear a face mask indoors at school.
  • Strongly recommends students in Prep to Year 2 to wear a face mask indoors
Stay home when unwell and get tested

The most important action school communities can take to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, is to ensure that any unwell staff and students remain at home and get tested even with the mildest of symptoms.

Summer Uniform - Hats

A reminder about the summer uniform. We are a Sunsmart school and hats are a vital part of the uniform.

Extracurricular activities

Specialist music, dance and drama sessions will resume from November 8th. All staff coming onsite or working with our school children must be fully vaccinated. Allied health specialists are also able to return onsite.

PSG's will continue online.

Many of you will have heard that with the high number of COVID cases, there are a large number of schools affected. I wish to draw your attention to the new protocols in place for the management of schools in the hope to alleviate any anxiety for our families worried about any further whole school closures.

Management of school COVID-19 cases; a summary of the new protocols for COVID cases on school site (updated 21 October 2021)
To better support schools to manage COVID-19 cases, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) has been working with the Department of Education and Training (DET) and the Department of Health (DH) to revise and streamline how COVID-19 cases will be managed in schools.

Principals contact their appointed Regional COVID lead as soon as they become aware that a student or other member of the school community has tested positive to COVID-19 and was onsite within 48hours prior to the onset of symptoms or before the test.

Primary Close Contacts (PCC) are likely to be limited to those in the same class as the confirmed COVID-19 case.

The new protocols limit school closures.

This means that only the class or level connected to the PCC will need to isolate (This is the reason for the class bubbles at St Patrick's therefore limiting exposure across class rooms).
  • DH will send an SMS to the PCCs advising them of their quarantine, testing and release dates.
  • Staff identified as a PCC and fully vaccinated are only required to isolate for 7 days.
  • PCC students will be asked to isolate until they clear a Day 13 test
  • Families/ households of PCCs will no longer be required to limit their movements or stay at home
  • Schools contact cleaning contractors and identify high touch areas where the case has been identified for additional cleaning. A deep clean is no longer required.
An outcome of these new protocols is that the school as a whole will remain open.

There is no longer anymore independent lockdown supervision onsite. This is due to the fact that if there is a positive case, then the whole class affected will isolate and the class teacher will teach the class remotely during that period of time. No children will be exempt from the class during that period.

Please contact principal@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au if you have any queries in relation to these updated protocols.

2022 P&F Class Reps - Volunteers needed
We are currently looking for volunteers to be the P&F representatives in each class or year level for 2022. Being a class rep is a wonderful way to meet other parents, and is a huge support to the P&F Committee and the school.
The main role of the Class Reps is to foster a sense of community within the year level by:
· Welcoming new families who may join the school mid year
· Being a conduit from the P&F to the families in your class / year in relation to P&F social events or fundraising efforts
· Organising social events for your year level in conjunction with your other year level reps

If you would like to volunteer, or would like more information – please email: pandf@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au or contact Jenny Jones 0410470647
