Community Update # 4.1 Looking ahead to Term 4 Week 1

 Dear Parents & Carers,

As you are aware, 42 of our families (including staff) were required to spend the whole school holiday period in quarantine.

This has been an extremely challenging 14 day period for these 27 families and 15 staff members. We are all familiar with the challenges of isolation which we experienced during our whole school closure in July and wouldn't wish that experience on anyone.

Fortunately there was no transmission to any other students or staff onsite. Our procedures and practices including the urgent response from all concerned, ensured that everyone remained safe.

Unfortunately however, transmission occurred within the affected family’s home and the family are all still recovering. We keep them in our thoughts and pray that they will all heal very soon.

In order to ensure the wellbeing of families and staff still suffering from their quarantine experiences, we have made some adjustments to our programme for Week 1 this term.

Adjustments to the Week 1 programme

  • Flexible learning will resume on Monday 4 October at the normal time however, the school day will finish at 2:30pm for onsite and offsite students during Week 1 only.

  • Specialist Day will take place on Tuesday this term until further notice

  • To minimise staff exposure and numbers of staff onsite, teachers will be allocated to one day over a 10 day period onsite. When a teacher is onsite, they will only be available for the 9am Zoom meeting for their class on that day. The teacher will notify their class when this occurs. The teacher will not be available to contact or mark any set work on that day.

Adjustments to onsite criteria for families

Due to the high number of cases across Melbourne and the need to minimise risk for our staff and children, we are unable to offer the same flexibility around on-site numbers. Please refer to the adjusted criteria below.

  • All applications must be emailed to Jenny principal@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au by Friday 1 October for Week 1

  • Both parents must be essential workers and hold a permit

  • NCCD students classified as extensive only may apply to come onsite

  • There will be less fluidity around drop off and pick up arrangements. Children must be dropped off by 9am and picked up at a designated time in writing.

  • Team Kids will be available for onsite students

  • Temperature screening will recommence

  • If a parent is unwell, then please ensure you get a covid test and keep your children at home until you receive the result

  • If a student is unwell, they must not be sent to school

Further information with regard to Week 2 onwards will be shared with you during Week 1.

This will include and update on mandatory vaccinations for staff, air purifiers, outdoor learning and year level safety learning and play bubbles as we progress ahead in the coming weeks.

A huge shout out to our wonderful staff and families who are starting to come out of quarantine. We thank them for playing their part in keeping our community safe.

Thanks to all of you for your support and understanding as we prepare for a new term and work together to keep all children, staff and families at St Patrick's school safe and well.

As always, please email me with any further questions.

Community Update #3.9

 Prayer of a Thankful Heart

Written by Lara Giudice 4R

Thank you God for keeping those around me healthy, safe and loved.

I am grateful for having a family that loves and supports me, and a home that is filled with love and laughter.

Thank you for sunshine, blue skies and flowers that bloom.

I am grateful for technology and the ability to stay connected with my family, friends and teachers.

Thank you for the brightness that kind words and actions bring.

I am grateful for all your blessings and for the strength you give me each day.

Amen

Special Parish Invitation about Alpha September 22 at 7pm
Here is the live link to the invitation.

Thank you and Term 4

Thank you to our children, families and staff for all of your efforts during this challenging term.

We especially appreciate the support of the P& F Committee and our School Advisory Council. All of these parents have gone the extra mile, volunteering and giving up their time despite their own personal challenges this term.

Special thanks to the Luck family who are moving to Tasmania in the holidays to be closer to family. Sarah joined the P&F committee in the term before her son Will started at St Pat's last year. Sara has been coordinating Patcare as well as being an active member of the P&F and played a big part in the recent successful P&F Trivia event.

We will update you with details around plans for Term 4 once we receive information and guidance from MACS.

We hope and pray that we will all be back together at school in Term 4.

Stay safe and well during the holidays everyone.

Congratulations to our preps !!

Book Week Poem

By Nina McKenzie 3LO

The shiny front cover of adventure.

Fairy Tales, fiction, nonfiction, good books and books about nature.

The words sucking me into another world.

A story where the adventure gets tied up in a swirl.

I will read books every now and then.

And write them with the ink of my pen.

I can’t live without them.

Where's Wally ?
Thanks to Tia and our staff who have organised a bit of fun for the children in the holidays.
St Pat's has hidden 60 Where's Wally characters around the local community. If you find a character, please leave it in the same place, so that others can find it. Feel free to snap a pic and email it to tcroce@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au. Make sure you check the parks and shops around our school.

Kindergarten news and our much awaited refurbishment

I am pleased to officially announce that we have been given the green light from MACS for the Murrumbeena  Kindergarten to move on to our school site commencing in 2023. Unfortunately, the kindergarten's current lease is coming to an end.

We are excited about the opportunity for St Pat's to form a partnership with GEKA Murrumbeena and enable a smooth transition from three-year-old kindergarten through to the end of primary school for all children. GEKA will cover the costs to convert the portable classroom in our playground into a kindergarten.

We are awaiting another green light from MACS too ! We hope to hear very soon that we will be able to commence our much awaited refurbishment works at St Pat's.

I look forward to sharing more details with you next term.

Please email principal@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au if your family is leaving the school for 2022 as we are beginning to make plans for classes.

Community Update # 3.8

 Covid Reflection by Charlotte 3L

Thank you

Thanks for all of your hard work with your children during the past weeks. We know that it isn't easy with many of you juggling your own jobs, younger siblings and home learning. This has certainly felt like a very long term for all of us and our hearts go out to you all.

Our staff want nothing more than for all of the children to be back onsite. Each and every staff member has been working harder than ever to keep your children engaged in their learning. At the same time, our staff are trying to be as sensitive as possible to the emotional wellbeing of every learner. Again, it's not easy to do this via an online forum and we appreciate your support and understanding.

We all miss the "in person" contact with the children and we know that they miss each other too.

Thanks for your efforts with the children for Book Week and special thanks to Mrs Bern Woods for coordinating this year's online programme. We will share some of the fantastic class Zoom shots in the virtual assembly video on Monday.

Please be assured that we are already busy making plans to ensure a safe, transition back to school when we are given the green light.

Once we get through next week, please encourage the children to pack away their screens and enjoy as much time outside in the fresh air as possible.

Wednesday 15  September Incursion

The Preps, Year 1s & Year 2s are participating in an online RSPCA Incursion that is being delivered via Zoom from 11:00 am till 11 :45 am.
