Week 2 Term 3 2019

San Damiano Cross
This week, the staff received a gift of a San Damiano Cross for the staff room from my visit to Assisi in Italy. The San Damiano Cross is the large Romanesque cross before which St. Francis of Assisi was praying when he is said to have received the commission from the Lord to rebuild the Church. It now hangs in the Basilica of Saint Clare (Basilica di Santa Chiara) in Assisi, Italy, with a replica in its original position in the church of San Damiano nearby. Franciscans regard this cross as a symbol of their mission to commit their lives and resources to renewing and rebuilding the Church.
This cross depicts the joy and the hope of the resurrected Jesus.

We are positive
At assembly we introduced the value we are focussing on this term "We are positive". The children viewed a video about a boy who has a very positive outlook on life considering the challenges of his disabilities.
In the coming weeks the children will be discussing ways to have a positive attitude to their learning and ways to be positive in all that they do.

Congratulations Cori, Lylah, Maya and MacKenzie PLEASE Go online and support our St Pat's dancers
Four St Patrick’s students were lucky to take part in a televised dance competition with local dance school Dance Desires. Maya Pabst and Mackenzie Kelly competed with two dances in the U12 section and Lila Saunders and Cori Guidance competed with two dances in U10. All four dances won the Most Outstanding Performance Award in their respective categories. These performances can now be viewed with online general public voting now open for one week closing next Wed 31st July. Winners of the public vote will be announced when the competition is aired on Foxtel Aurora 10.30am on 11th Aug. Could our wonderful St Pats community show their support by voting for either one of the Dance Desires U10 routines or U12 routines. To vote go to http://www.mastersofchoreography.com, register and vote. Only one vote per email address is permitted. Voting closes on Wednesday 31st of July (at midnight). Winners will be announced (and routines shown) on Foxtel on the 11th of August. It is a great opportunity I would think for the St Pat’s community to get behind our kids to see if we can get people voting for them.

Safe Travels Deb
During the week we farewelled Deb and wished her safe travels as she heads away on the trip of a lifetime with Vince until Term 2 next year. We will keep Deb and Vince in our thoughts in the coming months while they explore the beauty of our wonderful country.

Week 1 Term 3 2019

Welcome Back and message from Rome

Welcome to Term 3 and Semester 2 at St Patrick's. The children have got off to a great start with their learning this term and we thank you as parents for your continued support for our staff. It was wonderful to receive your feedback about our core values work around respect. This term we will focus on the core value "We are positive" and look forward to all of us continuing to develop a positive mindset.

It's wonderful to be back after my 3 week study trip to Rome where the weather was a little warmer than here! I was blessed to join 30 educators from around Australia as we completed the Australian Catholic University course - Mission, Culture and Spirituality lead by Professor Sr Peta Goldberg and Professor Br David Hall. Along with 15 principals and leaders, we are grateful to the Catholic Education Melbourne office who fully funded the course. I will share my learning experiences with our school community in the coming weeks commencing with some special gifts for the classrooms which I will present at assembly this Monday. The main message that I am pleased to share is the overwhelming positive and exciting mission of Catholic education and the emphasis on the important role that a strong, united family plays in society today.

Daffodil Day - Prayers for Michelle Barclay and Ricky (Year 2O)

We ask you to continue to pray for our wonderful PE teacher Michelle Barclay who is on extended sick leave and Ricky in 2O who is receiving treatment whilst overseas. Our sincere prayers and thoughts are with these valued members of our school community and their families.

Thank you to the Parr family who came to see me about a special request for Daffodil Day. We will go ahead with the request and will celebrate the day on Friday 30 August (due school closure on the 23 August).

Dear Miss Hawkins,

On Friday 23 of August it will be Daffodil Day and we were wondering if the entire school could participate in it. We thought we could come dressed in yellow and make a gold coin donation which would go towards the charity. We also thought this would be a great way to show Mrs Barclay and our class mate Ricky our support and that we are thinking of them.

From Millie, Eliza & Tess

Thanks to Leadership Team
A special thanks to our leadership team and staff for doing a wonderful job of supporting our school community while I was overseas during the last week of term and the school holidays.

Welcome to Kellie
As our wonderful finance manager Deb Dalton prepares to go on leave at the of next week, we warmly welcome Kellie Mascaro to the front office. Kellie lives locally and has three daughters. Kellie brings a wealth of experience to the role and we welcome her to our team for 2019.

All students will also be invited to take part in a short, interactive session on the bus throughout the school day.

Offering weekly lessons in keyboard, guitar, ukulele, singing, drums and rock band, The Music Bus program provides the teacher and the instruments, all inside a high-tech, mobile music classroom (the bus)!
At the end of the activities, students will be given an Expression of Interest form.
