Community Update #3.7

Science Day

To celebrate National Science Week, St Patrick’s students had a fun day of

immersing themselves in all different types of Science. Students looked fantastic dressed as Scientists, and we saw Palaeontologists, Biologists, Chemists and even Madame Curie!

From Chemical Science, to Sound, to Smell and Light, each child participated in 5 different experiments throughout the day. Everyone was really engaged and there were great conversations being had using the Scientific Method Observe, Question, Hypothesise, Investigate and Analyse.

A big thanks to all the families who donated materials that allowed for lots of curiosity and hands-on learning. A special mention to Sacred Heart for lending us lab coats and safety goggles, and Ashwood Woolworths for donating fruit.

Day

Masks

Masks are no longer required from Thursday. Thankyou to those who complied with our requirements to keep staff, students and families safe.

Book Week

On Monday we celebrated Book Week with a resplendent parade. The children dressed as a favourite character with the theme "Dreaming with eyes open."

Keyboard and Guitar

Because of the relocation of the Year Prep and Yr 1 classes, we no longer have a space for keyboard or guitar lessons. Lili will be in touch to discuss classes via Zoom.

Code of Conduct

Parents are asked to revisit the code of conduct that all parents signed on enrolment. It is not appropriate for parents to approach other parents to discuss issues that occur at school. Remember children will usually give their version of events, which may not tell the whole story. If it happened at school, it should be dealt with at school, and there is a formal process to deal with Complaints. Please refer your concerns to the principal to follow up.

Fathers & Special Friends Day Gifts
We hope all families have received their gift packs which were sent home earlier this week. If there are any issues with the packs (especially if the number of items does not match the number of children at school), please let the P&F know as soon as possible so we can correct any errors.
We ask families to pay for the children's gifts using CDFPay: https://spmurrumbeena.cdfpay.org.au/

Australian Teacher Aide Appreciation Week: 29th August to 2nd September

Thankyou to our Pre-Loved Uniform Team

Our pre-loved uniform team has been working hard behind the scenes to catalogue all the donated items on hand, and respond to requests via their email. Led by the amazing Sandra Iolano, we'd like to thank her and the team who ran the first on-site stall this week since the start of 2020. Watch this space for future on site dates.
Families can continue to request items via email: stpatssecondhanduniforms@gmail.com All items are $5 and can be paid for using CDFPay. Items will be sent home with children.

Community Update #3.6

What a busy week we have had! The children celebrated Science Week this week, culminating in a day of experiments in multi-age groups. I’m sure your children will enjoy sharing their experiences with you.

Next week is another exciting one with Book Week kicking off on Monday morning.

BOOK WEEK 2022    20-26 August

This year’s theme ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open’ acknowledges Australia’s First Nations People and their rich story-based culture.

Each year since 1945 the CBCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia) has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. This is a lot of fun and helps bring kids’ most cherished books to life. To help your child appreciate the power of imagination and creativity, spend time together discussing books and the possible dress-up costume that is do-able.

At St Patrick’s we will launch Book Week on Monday 22 August at 9am with a parade where students and staff dress up as a favourite book character. We will assemble together and, with the Choir leading, sing Come Alive, before we commence the parade.

We look forward to celebrating this joyous occasion and having fun together.    Bernadette Wood - Librarian

SAC

The next SAC meeting was due next Thursday, however due to the school closure day, and our re-locating, we will postpone this for now.

No Dogs

A friendly reminder that dogs are not permitted on the school grounds. Please wait with your dog outside the gates.

Daffodils

Well done St Patricks families. We sold 210 daffodil bunches!

You are welcome to take a picture of your daffodils and post on social media using these hashtags#ForAllThatCancerTakesGive #Daffodilday #stpatsmbna #CancerVic. You can also tag @cancervic @stpatsmbna for reposting.

Finally- if you, or anyone you know needs help and support relating to cancer, please call 13 11 20 tospeak with a cancer nurse, or click here https://www.cancervic.org.au/If you want to know how to support members of the school community affected by cancer, click here https://www.cancervic.org.au/cancer-information/children-teens-and-young-adults/cancer-in-the-school-community/bereaved-school-community

Traffic

Today some cars were side swiped in Victory St near Dalny Rd. We urge parents and carers not to double park or park across driveways- both are safety hazards. We will request Glen Eira Council to monitor and book those failing to comply.

A reminder that there is no school next Thursday, but Team Kids will be operating.

Community Update #3.5

 Community Update #3.5

Last week we met with the building teams for the forthcoming works. The kinder is due to commence in a week. Our priority is ensuring the safety of each child, and maintaining as much play space as possible. The back gates will continue to be locked.

Currently, all children must enter through the front gates or the church driveway gates, and exit the same way. We will stagger the departure to ensure minimal congestion. The bike shed is only accessible through the church gates. A reminder that the morning bell rings at 8.40, but children have until 8.55 to enter school, so there is no need to gather early.

Masks

Our allocation of masks and RATs has now ceased. Students are required to provide their own masks. We really appreciate everyone's efforts to keep our community safe. If you are requiring RATs, please email the office and we will send a box home with your child.

We are delighted to see many parents joining us for Prayer time on Wednesdays and Fridays. Just a reminder that visitors to classrooms also need to wear masks.

Change of school closure date.

The school closure date has moved to August 25th. We are in the hands of the builders and had little say in the change. Apologies if this is problematic for you.

Daffodils

St Patricks is selling bunches of daffodils to raise money for the Cancer Council. The Cancer Council gives much needed support to people affected by cancer.  The daffodil represents hope for a cancer free future.

You will be able to pick up the daffodils on Wednesday 17th August (TBC).

Money goes to support cancer research that will save lives and keep families together.

Wearing yellow is a way we as a community can show our

support to someone who is currently fighting cancer, to show

admiration to someone who beat cancer, and to honour and

lovingly acknowledge someone who fought with dignity until

the end.

So wear yellow and bring a gold coin on Wednesday August 17th.

Team Kids

On July 29 we celebrated National Tree Day at team kids. Children made posters with messages on saving trees. We also made recycled paper from used paper which was later on used for art and craft purpose. Dot colouring and making Aboriginal flag with handprints were the highlights of National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander day celebrated at team kids on the 4th of August. Cooking club recipes included feta cheese and spinach puff pastry, tacos, French toast and chocolate pudding. At art club children got engaged in fork painting and bottle lid painting. As part of sustainability club children played outdoors in the sand pit with sand pit toys and shovels made from empty milk cans and a DIY marble run made out of reused cardboard box.

**On Aug 23rd children are welcome to come in to  after care dressed up in yellow clothes/accessories with a gold coin donation. Show your love and support, visit our bake sale at 3 pm, and all the profits goes towards cancer council daffodil day fundraising by St Patricks.

Junior Hoop Time
Last Thursday we had 43 students in years 3 & 4 represent St Pats at the Junior Hoop Time carnival at MSAC. We took 5x teams to compete against schools within the Dendy District, and show off some of their exceptional basketball skills. Unfortunately no teams made it through to the finals, however they should be super proud of their amazing efforts, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship throughout the day.
A huge appreciation and thank you to Miss Adcock, Miss Jepson, Kirsty Gemetzis, Richard Ford, Cathy Byrne, Sally Stafford and Rob Magnanini for coming along to coach, score and support our players. Without your help the day couldn't have gone ahead.
Well done to all our junior basketballers!
