Week 10 Term 4 2019

Safe & Happy Holidays
Thank you to all families who have given us your full support during Term 3. I have received many positive messages, emails and phone calls as well as conversations before and after school with you in relation to the great learning opportunities and community events held at St Patrick's. Special thanks to our staff, our board and P & F parents who have all worked so hard this term.
Please note: The children wear their Summer uniform in Term 4 and will need to bring their hats to wear too.
Have a safe and happy term break and we look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 7th October.

A beautiful display made by the Year 3 children.

First Communion

Congratulations to all of the children who made their First Communion on Sunday. They were beautiful masses celebrated by Father Eugene together with Deacon Leo and Carlo David. Thanks to Mrs Mullan and the Year 4 teachers for preparing the children well to received the blessed eucharist for the first time. Special thanks to Mrs O' Dwyer and the children from the St Pat's Choir who led the singing.

St Pat's Got Talent
Congratulations to Sienna and Mackenzie Year 6 who won the St Pat's Got Talent finals this year. The girls performed for the whole school at a special assembly this morning and we were all very impressed. Thanks to the Year 6 leaders and Mrs O'Dwyer for organising the event this year.

Congratulations Emma - Positive Attitude !!
Congratulations to Emma Yr 6 who is playing in the U12 Girls Victorian Championship Grand Final with her Melbourne Tigers Rep Basketball team tonight.
We are all proud of  Emma and how hard she has worked this season considering she had a  hip injury for the first three months of the season. Emma worked diligently with physio and rehab to overcome her injury with determination and positivity. Well done Emma and good luck.

Fair 5 Weeks to go !!

There are many stalls which have been already allocated to volunteers, however there are additional stalls which are yet to be allocated which you'll find listed below. We're now looking to staff the remaining stalls with some volunteers within each cohort. The main role the volunteers will be needing to fulfil is setup of stall, running the stall on the day and pack up on the day, as the stall will be predominately already organised e.g. hire equipment ordered and goods purchased. So really just your labour of love is required as all the thinking and planning has already been done for you : )

Stalls to be allocated (I have made some suggestions below, however happy for these allocation to change)

Please note that anyone else outside of your year level can also assist your allocated year level stall. However the initial allocation might be easier to ask within your cohort to see if there is anyone that would like to volunteer as well. Once a list of volunteers are collated by the fair committee a wider search will be made to fulfil roles which still require allocation.

Also note that there are additional stalls outside of the ones listed above which will also be run on the day e.g. cakes, plants, craft, drinks, other food stalls etc. These stalls have already been organised by mini committees however volunteers to staff the stalls throughout the day will also be needed. So if you’re wanting to help for a few hours on a stall but the ones listed above don’t tickle your fancy, still reach out and you can be easily assigned to one of these stalls instead.

So please send all your expression of interest through to Nadine Power npowered@icloud.com by Friday 1st October : )
It’s going to be a great day, however we do need your help to ensure we have enough people to setup and run the stalls. We unfortunately did not have a fair last year due to the lack of volunteers. So now that the ball is rolling, let’s get things happening again and make sure that this event is a cracker for the kids, families and wider community!
Any questions, please reach out! Best, Nadine 0408 446 642

Week 9, Term 3, 2019

Grandparents/ Special Friends Day  - Not a dry eye in sight !
We have never seen the church so full ! There was standing room only when grandparents, great grandparents and special friends came together in St Patrick's church. When the children sang a special song to their grandparents - there wasn't a dry eye in sight. One grandmother told me that her grandchildren asked why she was crying. She said she was crying tears of joy because she was so happy. Special thanks to Mrs Minter and Miss O' Halloran who helped to make the morning a big success and the Parents and Friends for supplying morning tea for hundreds of happy visitors to our school.
Our prayers and thoughts are with all of our grandparents and special friends who are unwell or who are no longer with us. Their beautiful memories are engrained in our hearts and they are with us in spirit.

First Communion Sunday 15th October 9am and 5pm
Our prayers and thoughts are with our First Communicants and their families when they receive the Holy Eucharist for the first time. Thanks to Mrs Mullans, the Year 4 teachers and families who have supported our children.

Footballers and Fairies Day Friday - School Finishes at 3:30 Normal Time !!
The last day of Term 3 is a fun time to celebrate finals fever and the end of a great term. The children can dress up in footy or fairy gear or a mixture of both. They have received their special lunch order forms. There will be no normal lunch orders on Friday. Extra forms are available from the office.

Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation - September 29th Blue Ribbon Day
Aleks in Prep Y is the ambassador for the Victorian Police blue Ribbon foundation.
The foundation perpetuates the memory of members of the Victoria Police who have died in the line of duty through the support of worthwhile community projects within Victoria. They aim to encourage the public of Victoria to remember the sacrifice of officers who have fallen in the line of duty and to show all serving members of Victoria Police that their work and commitment is valued by a caring community. Well done Aleks for your support for the police. Let's thank the police for all that they do for the community if we see them in the holidays.

School Review
The school review finished on Tuesday with the VRQA compliance audit. Our school was commended for many of it's exemplary practices.
Here is a link to some information about the Specific Focus Review with photos of the staff and students in action. The post is entitled Archaeological Dig Unearths Invaluable Treasure. We will receive the final report towards the end of the term. The recommendations will drive our School Improvement Plan for the next four years and we look forward to sharing this with you early next term.

Gardening Club
Thanks to Rose from Bunnings with generous donations of plants and gardening equipment, our new school garden is beginning to take shape. Special thanks to Kirsten Tranter for getting in touch with Bunnings and Grace Pius and Francoise Tran for supporting the Monday Gardening Club along with the Year 6 Leaders. We will share photos of the gardeners in action on the school Facebook Page.

Sport News
Well done to our representatives who competed at Albert Park Division Athletics on Friday. Thanks Kylie Telfer for the photo and to the parents who supported this event.
Fair Countdown

Spring has sprung and there is no time like the present to do a spring clean at home and scout around for items that can be donated to the St Patrick’s School Fair. There are several things that you may have around the house that could help us out.
Books – The Book Stall is always a winner at the event. We are seeking any good quality, second hand books that you might be willing to donate. In particular, children’s books or adult/teen fiction would be most appreciated. Books can be dropped off to Jenny Jones at 49 Brett Street, Murrumbeena (just around the corner from the School). They can be left on the porch for collection. Multi-use bags – We are also collecting any multi-use cloth or plastic shopping bags that can be used for customers to take their books home. These can also be given to Jenny as per above.
Frolic in the garden this Spring - The Fair is also seeking plastic pots (up to 20cm in diameter) for the plant stall. So if you have any lying around in the backyard or garage please drop them to the plant club table at the rear of the school - next to the bike shed. Small seedlings, indoor plants, herbs/tomato plant clippings would also be appreciated.
The Fair is an exciting event for our community. There will be several opportunities to assist us along the way or on the day itself. Please keep an eye out for communications from your class rep or through flexibuzz. If you have any special skills/sponsorship opportunities or donations please contact the committee via the school.
Thank you for your continued support of this important event.
Kind regards St Patricks Fair Committee Ps: Connect now – We have set up a Facebook page for the Fair. Please follow us at @StPatricksPrimarySchoolFair
