Community Update #2.3

 Anzac Day Liturgy

We started the week with a moving Anzac Day Liturgy led by Mr Moran's 4M class. The service concluded with representatives from each class presenting their Anzac wreaths to lay on the altar in the church.

Welcome to morning prayers on Wednesdays and Fridays

On Wednesday and Friday this week our classes welcomed family members to join into morning prayers. There were about 30 visitors today. We continue the open invitation as we give parents an opportunity to visit classrooms and reaquaint themselves with the school after the pandemic year.
If you wish to visit, please come to the portico outside the office and collect a visitor lanyard. Join the children for class prayers at 8:55am at the start of the day.

Confirmation and Eucharist Update for Week 3

We have had a few questions about the number of family members allowed in the Church. There will be an update to you on Tuesday. At this stage, it is half a pew for the Confirmation and one pew for the First Communion.

Happy Birthday !!

Seven of our wonderful staff celebrated their birthdays in April. Here are 5 of them enjoying a special morning tea. Happy Birthday to them all !!

Meet Bronte our St Pat's Therapy Dog

Thanks to Ms Guscott for attending the therapy training with Bronte. Please read the letter below and return the slip to the office if you do not wish for your child to be involved in the program.

Therapy Dog Program

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are about to embark on a new program within our school - a therapy dog program. Studies have shown that therapy dogs can significantly reduce stress and anxiety, in adults and children alike (Barker and Dawson 1998; Beck et al. 1986: Davis 1988; Siegal 1990).

Ms Guscott and her dog, Bronte, completed therapy dog training over the holidays. Bronte is a 5 year-old Border Collie, who loves nothing more than being with people, and a pat or two! She has been judged to have the correct temperament, focus and obedience, to be a therapy dog. Bronte will be our school reading dog, listening to children read. She will also be available as a calming influence, to assist anxious children.

All children will be involved in the program unless withdrawn by parents.

Please complete the form below to remove your child from the program, or to indicate that they have an allergy to pet hair.

We look forward to the wonderful benefits that our students will experience from having a therapy dog within our school.

Special offer to St Pats parents

Mothers Day special
1 x Free Class of Dancefit

A friend of mine (and ex Dancing with the Stars dancer - Jessics Raffa) does this class and it is awesome, great for fitness (with no prior experience or fitness level required) and it is super fun....which is always helpful if you don't love exercise. She has started them up in Murrumbeena and is offering a free class if you mention my name or St Pats as a trial. I have mentioned to a few people personally....but this would be a much more effective way to get the offer out. Usually $25 per class so this is a good trial offer.

Any questions, please let me know and I am happy to help others with queries if they want to know more detail.

Let me know if this is ok?

Thanks, Bianca

Community Update #2.2

 Alleluia Day (Easter) Liturgy

The whole school attended a short Alleluia Day liturgy to celebrate the risen Jesus following on from the Easter liturgies last term. Special thanks to Mrs O'Dwyer, Ms La Fontaine and all of the children who read during the liturgy.

Sacrament News

This term our Year 6's are preparing to make their Confirmation on Friday May 7th at 7pm and our Year 5's will make their First Communion 5S on Saturday 8th May and 5J Saturday 15th May.
Then later in the term, our Year 4's will make their First Reconciliation on Wednesday 16th June at 6pm. In Term 4, the Year 4's will make their First Communion. Before the children make the sacraments, they will also have Reconciliation.
Please keep our Year 4, 5 and 6 children and their families in your prayers in the coming weeks and months.

The flyer from Fr Siby with regards to the parent evening on Wednesday 28 April was sent home. Please email the office if you are interested in attending or email me with any questions principal@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au

We are open for morning prayers

All parents are welcome to join classes for morning prayers on Wednesdays and Friday this term from 9:00-9:10am. Please come to the office, complete the QR scan or sign in, take a visitor lanyard and then go to your child's class for a 9am start.

Camp News

Special thanks to Mr Jones for organising and leading the Year 5/6 camp this week. Thanks to all of the staff who supported the camp too. The children had a great time and returned safely on Wednesday afternoon.
One of the highlights was Ms Stokes going down the long waterslide !

Staff News

For the remainder of this year, Signora Veronica Scuilli is taking a well-earned Long Service Leave break. This has provided a unique opportunity for our Yr 1 to 6's to explore other languages and cultures, including our Indigenous History. We welcome Felicity Renaudin to our staff for the rest of this year. Felicity is known to many of the children who will enjoy working with her from next week.

Bonjour et Buongiorno.

My name is Madame Felicity and it is a privilege to be able to teach French and other languages throughout the year of 2021.

The immersion programme of learning new languages, aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding, communication and respect.

I will encourage students to become compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other cultures can be different but also similar when they understand and respect others’ history and opinions.

Over the next three terms, all students will participate in reading, writing, drawing, singing, participating in incursions, playing games, listening and speaking various new languages.

Madame Felicity

School Uniform Update

Over the holidays we were informed by PSW that some sizes of the short and long sleeve polo tops are out of stock. Rather than order another run, we have decided to bring forward by a term the new checked shirt for both boys and girls in all sizes. As always, there will be a 2 year change over period where either shirt is acceptable. If you are purchasing a new shirt for the winter tunic or pants, you may prefer to opt for the new design.
Please direct any questions or feedback directly to lizh@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au

Parents & Friends (P&F) News

Easter Raffle thank you
A huge thank you to all of our wonderful St Patrick's families who donated an astounding amount of Easter goodies. We were thrilled to be able to provide 128 prize hampers to children across the school and were also able provide an additional Easter Egg per child given out in the classrooms. This would not have been possible without your generosity - thankyou so much for your support.
Additionally, another big thank you to families who bought raffle tickets - $2798 was raised - the proceeds of this will go to the school towards funding the Michelle Barclay memorial running track.
Another thank you goes to the group of parents who helped by collecting donated goods from school, making the hampers, delivering the prizes and contributing to the raffle's success in other ways.

Mother's Day Stall Gifts - $5 per child
The P&F have been busy preparing a new-look Mother's Day Stall gift for children to bring home on Friday 7th May. As cashless payment is now the requested option, we ask families to provide $5 for each child using the CDF pay app. Payment can be made from Monday 26th April.
To access CDF Pay go to: https://spmurrumbeena.cdfpay.org.au or use the QR code on the front cover of your 2021 Pink List or attached flyer at this link.

Assistance required - Second Hand Uniform Stall
Over the coming weeks, the Second Hand Uniform Stall will be returning to being on-site at the school. We sincerely thank Kellie Heathcote who has been running it from her home for the last year.
We are looking for a parent or group of parents who are able to help run the stall. The stall has traditionally been open from 3.00pm to 3.25pm one day a week, and is located just inside the foyer near the doors to school hall.
If you are able to help - perhaps you'd like to grab a friend or two and set up a roster, or let the P&F know you are interested and we'll connect you to other parents. The stall is an easy way to meet other parents at the school, and the day of the week is flexible. If you would like to help - please email pandf@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au
For the moment - if you have good quality second hand uniform (particularly winter uniform) items please email heathcote.kellie@yahoo.com to arrange drop off. All items are $5 and all proceeds from the sale of second hand uniform items goes to the school.

PatCare - A Connected Community - Can you help?
The St Patrick’s community support program (PatCare) is a long-standing group that supports members of our local community during times of need.
Its volunteer base is coordinated through the St Patrick’s Parents & Friends Association, but the support is administered confidentially by the school. We are always looking to grow the list of volunteers available to assist. Please click on this link to read more about PatCare.
Sarah Luck (mum to William in Gr 1) is our PatCare coordinator. If you think you can assist, please drop her an email: Sarah.Luck@Coles.com.au

St Patrick's P&F Guidelines / Minutes of Meetings
The P&F Committee has recently endorsed a set of guidelines for how we operate. Click on this link to read them. They will soon be uploaded to the P&F page on the school's learning community site. You are also welcome to review the Minutes of our meetings which are published here.

Next P&F Committee Meeting - Tuesday 18th May at 7.30pm - all welcome
We warmly welcome any parents who wish to attend a P&F meeting either in person or online. Your contributions and thoughts are valuable to us, and you do not need to be a committee member to attend, but are welcome to join the committee at any time during the year. We will publish a Zoom link and the location of this meeting closer to the date.
