Community Update #1.12

Faith Update

The Solemnity of the Annunciation celebrates the coming of the Angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary to announce to her the special mission God had chosen for her in being the mother of His only son.
The Annunciation, which means "the announcement," is observed almost universally throughout Christianity, especially within Orthodoxy, Anglicanism, Catholicism, and Lutheranism.
The feast of the Annunciation began to be celebrated on this day during the fourth and fifth centuries, soon after the date for celebrating Christmas was universalized throughout the Church. The date of the feast, which is determined by the date of Christmas, is nine months prior to Christmas. This date was set by the seventh century.

Sunday 28 March is Palm Sunday. Following on from Lent and in the lead up to Easter, the children are participating in Easter liturgies at school before the term finishes. Friday 26 March - Palm Sunday Liturgy
Monday 29 March - Holy Thursday Liturgy and Tuesday 30 March - Good Friday Liturgy (as we are not at school on Holy Thursday and Good Friday ).

Do you want to understand more about what the Catholic faith really means and how you can support your children to receive a Catholic education ?

Our Parish Priest, Fr Siby and I, encourage you to come along to a short talk, and question and answer session in the school hall on Wednesday 28th April from 7:30 to 8:30pm.
Please email office@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au to express your interest. Any questions to principal@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au. .

Seating arrangements - Confirmation and Communion

Thanks again to all of the families that attended the Year 6 Confirmation and Year 5 Communion evenings. Our Faith and Community Leaders, Ms La Fontaine and Mrs O'Dwyer coordinated two very informative events. The evenings were recorded and a video link is available. Please contact principal@spmurrumbeena for a link to the video.

For Confirmation, traditionally, every family is allocated half of a pew for their family and friends. We anticipate that this will be the same for 2021 unless notified otherwise due to Covid restrictions.

For Communion, traditionally, every family is allocated one whole pew for their family and friends. We anticipate that this will be the same for 2021 unless notified otherwise due to Covid restrictions.

Assembly News
Congratulations to all of the award winners for Week 9. Here is a recording of the presentation.

Congratulations to all of the Year 6 leaders. Here is a recording of the badge presentation.

Congratulations to the Semester 1 SRC ( Student Representative Council).

Thanks for your patience and support as we navigate through Covid restrictions and continue to keep our school children Covid safe this term.  We hope to be able to welcome parents back to our assemblies in Term 2.

New arrangements for drop off and pick up

From Monday 29th March, due to the latest easing of Covid restrictions, we wish to make the following changes to current drop off and pick up practises:

DROP OFF ( 8:45am - 8:55am)
  • All children from Prep to Year 6 may enter school through the front yard gates from 8:45am and go straight into their classrooms. Parents and carers are welcome to walk their children into the front yard.
  • Children from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 will walk their bikes and scooters in through the back yard gates and go straight to the bicycle shed and then into class from the backyard.
  • Children riding or scooting from Prep, Year 1 and 2 may enter the bicycle shed from the front yard (or the backyard if coming to school with an older sibling).
PICK UP (3:25pm)
  • Parents and carers are welcome to wait in the front yard to pick up their children at 3:25pm.
  • All children apart from the Year 3, 4, 5, 6 children who are riding will exit through the front yard.
We will continue to monitor the playground and review and make changes as necessary. Any questions, suggestions or feedback to principal@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au

Term 2 - Time to open up the school and celebrate reconnecting together safely onsite

We are excited to be moving into a safer Covid normal. We are planning to welcome parents and carers into classrooms on certain days for morning prayers and for afternoon visits to view their children's work. More details coming out very soon.

School fees

School fees are now due and all Year 5/6 camp fees must be paid by the end of this term. If you did not receive school fee statements via mail this month, please contact the office.

Collecting students for an appointment

When making external appointments for students, please consider making these after school hours or during the holidays. When this is not possible it would be appreciated if you could collect your child before recess times ie before 11.15 or 1.45.

Parents & Friends News

Easter Raffle - Thank you and last chance to buy tickets this weekend!
A huge thank you to everyone's generous donations toward the Easter Raffle prizes. The P&F committee will be assembling the prizes this weekend to be drawn on the last day of school (Wednesday 31st March). For anyone who is yet to purchase tickets via CDF Pay - we have extended the time to buy until Sunday midnight. Tickets are $1 each. See the  flyer for the 2021 Easter Raffle for a QR code to CDF Pay.

Reminder - last two Pizza Nights!
Grade 2 Pizza Night - Friday 26th March 5.30pm at Kangaroo Rd Park
Prep Pizza Night - Wednesday 31st March 5.30pm at Kangaroo Rd Park.

For parents who haven't attended a Pizza Night previously, these are a great night to catch up with old friends and introduce yourself to new families and children to the school. Generally, children's pizzas arrive first to get them fed earlier, then a second round of pizzas will arrive to feed the adults. Bring your own drinks and snacks - or there are drinking fountains in the park.
A sincere thankyou to our wonderful P&F Class Reps and other parents who have organised these nights - it hasn't been easy with COVID restrictions during February.

Second hand Uniforms
The second hand uniform shop is currently operating offsite. Please contact Kellie to  purchase items or drop off donations: heathcote.kellie@yahoo.com
With the changeover to winter uniforms the holidays are a great time to sort out your uniform needs and also to donate those uniforms that no longer fit. Please donate clean, wearable (no holes) uniforms. Email Kellie to arrange drop off. Items are not to be dropped off at school.  We have high demand for girls winter uniforms in particular but we accept all types of uniforms. Thank you to families for their ongoing support of the secondhand uniform shop.

Next P&F Meeting
All members of the school community are always welcome to attend our P&F meetings. The next meeting will be on Thursday 22nd April at 7.30pm in the school hall.
This is the first week of Term 2 and we will be finalising Mothers Day gift arrangements from the children and planning a mid year social function for parents..
