Catholic Education Week : Are you ready for Harmony Week, St Patrick's Day and National Ride 2 school Day ?
This coming week is Catholic Education week and we have a number of special celebrations planned.
On Monday 15 March we will celebrate the beginning of Harmony Week. Our 2021 choir will lead the school at assembly and sing the song "Everyone Belongs". All of the children have been learning this in their music lessons. We will video the performance to share with you.
Harmony Week is a chance to encourage the inclusiveness of different cultural backgrounds within our school and all schools. We are proud of the many cultures that make up our school. All children are invited to wear national dress or colours significant to their cultural backgrounds. Alternatively they can wear the colour orange.
Orange is the official colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. It signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. The colour orange also relates to freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.
St Patrick's Day is on Wednesday 17 March. On Wednesday the children will wear their school uniform and we will attend a special mass in the church.
On Friday 19 March, we will have an activity day to conclude the Harmony Week and St Patrick's day celebrations. On Friday, the children can wear the colour green instead of their uniform and ride to school....
National Ride 2 School Day
Dr Katie Allen, MP for Higgins is an avid cyclist. Dr Allen has invited us to support the National Ride 2 School initiative with her. We have registered our school.
https://www.bicyclenetwork.
As Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel, it would be great if we could include students, parents, teachers and the community to discover the joy of riding to school. Katie will meet our students and families at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve at 8:30 am and ride together to school from there.
Dr Katie Allen's team will organise a video to promote the students riding to school with Katie for social media.
This event would then be followed up by a possible speech in the Parliament highlighting the importance of National Ride 2 School Day.
If you are happy for your children to join Katie for the ride from Duncan Mackinnon Reserve to St Pat's then please email principal@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au

School Opening Hours
This is an important safety reminder. There is confusion with some families arriving early in the morning.
We continue to follow the opening hours as shared with you on the 17th February in Community Update #1.6
We will continue to use the front and back yards for safe entry and exit to and from the grounds.
Gates open at 8:45am (not 8:40) in the morning. The children can go straight into their classrooms from 8:45am. The second and final bell goes at 8:55am. If your children arrive at school and the back gate is locked, please send them to the office to sign in and get a late pass.
School finishes for everyone at 3:25pm.
