Week 4, Term 3 2019

Assumption Mass Thursday 15 August
On Thursday15 August the Church celebrates the Feast Day of the Assumption of Our Lady when according to our faith, the Holy Mother, “having completed her course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”.

Although defined as an article of faith by Pope Pius XII just over half a century ago, the Assumption of Our Lady into heaven has been accepted from back to the earliest of Christian times.

Our schoolchildren will attend mass at 9:10am on Thursday and parents are welcome to join us for this holy day of obligation. In the Catholic Church, holy days of obligation (also called holydays, holidays, or days of obligation) are days on which the faithful are expected to attend Mass.

HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
January 1: The Feast of Mary, the Mother of God.
40 days after Easter Sunday: Ascension Thursday.
August 15: Assumption of Mary into heaven.
November 1: All Saints' Day.
December 8: The Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
December 25: Christmas, the Nativity of Our Lord.

First Communion Workshop
Thanks to all of the parents, staff and Year 4 children who attended the workshops on Wednesday evening. The children are preparing to make the sacrament of the eucharist for the first time on Sunday 15th September. Please keep the children in your prayers.

Cards and messages for Mrs Barclay
Many of you have been asking how to contact Mrs Barclay to let her know that you are thinking of her during her sick leave. Please drop cards at the office and we will ensure Mrs Barclay receives them.

Daffodil Day
The Parr girls will talk more about our Daffodil Day at assembly this Monday. Daffodil Day will take place on Friday 30th August.

Book Week
Just a reminder that we will be celebrating the annual Book Week with a dress up day on Wednesday 21 August.
Book Week 2019 officially runs from August 17-23 and this year asks your children to embrace the theme 'READING IS MY SECRET POWER'; an exciting invitation with a world full of possibilities when it comes to book week costume ides. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to celebrate their favourite characters from their favourite books by dressing up. No need to sew an elaborate costume or hire expensive items. You can make a simple cape with a triangle of cheap fabric and decorate it. You may find your secret power in the past, a fantasy land or perhaps even another universe? Characters that have secret powers may be any one from Harry Potter, Matilda, Cat in the Hat, Harriet the Spy, Zac Power, Captain Underpants...

DressUp Day & Parade will be held on Wednesday 21 August, 2019 at 9 am. All welcome!
