 Community Update #3.4

This week we met with the building teams for the forthcoming works. The kinder is due to commence in a week. Our priority is ensuring the safety of each child, and maintaining as much play space as possible. The back gates will continue to be locked.

Currently, all children must enter through the front gates or the church driveway gates, and exit the same way. We will stagger the departure to ensure minimal conjestion. The bike shed is only accessible though the church gates. A reminder that the morning bell rings at 8.40, but children have until 8.55 to enter school, so there is no need to gather early.

Masks

Our allocation of masks and RATs has now ceased. Students are required to provide their own masks. We really appreciate everyone's efforts to keep our community safe. If you are requring RATs, please email the office and we will send a box home with your child.

We are delighted to see many parents joining us for Prayer time on Wednesdays and Fridays. Just a reminder that visitors to classrooms also need to wear masks.

Change of school closure date.

The school closure date has moved to August 25th. We are in the hands of the builders and had little say in the change. Apologies if this is problematic for you.

Daffodils

St Patricks is selling bunches of daffodils to raise money for the Cancer Council. The Cancer Council gives much needed support to people affected by cancer.  The daffodil represents hope for a cancer free future.

One bunch of daffodils (10 stems) costs $10. You can order these through CDF Pay, by placing your order by Wednesday 10th August.

You will be able to pick up the daffodils on Wednesday 17th August (TBC).

Money goes to support cancer research that will save lives and keep families together.

SCHOOL CLOSURE

We are in the hands of the builders and their schedule so we had little choice about the change of date for our school closure. Apologies for the change. Our school closure is now Thursday August 25th.

Junior Hoop Time
Last Thursday we had 43 students in years 3 & 4 represent St Pats at the Junior Hoop Time carnival at MSAC. We took 5x teams to compete against schools within the Dendy District, and show off some of their exceptional basketball skills. Unfortunately no teams made it through to the finals, however they should be super proud of their amazing efforts, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship throughout the day.
A huge appreciation and thank you to Miss Adcock, Miss Jepson, Kirsty Gemetzis, Richard Ford, Cathy Byrne, Sally Stafford and Rob Magnanini for coming along to coach, score and support our players. Without your help the day couldn't have gone ahead.
Well done to all our junior basketballers!

We finished the term with a beautiful mass to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart led by Year 5C. The donations of food and other goods were gratefully received by the Murumbeena St Vincent de Paul Society. We pray for all of the families who need support and care especially during the winter.

New Principal Update

The Principal Selection Process for our wonderful school, St Patrick’s Murrumbeena, is now in the final stage of the process.

Interviews have taken place with the ratification process being undertaken, all appointments need to be ratified by the Archbishop.

The name of the successful applicant is confidential until ratification is given, this ratification may take some time.

We thank you for your prayers over the past months and offer special thanks to the Principal Selection Panel who gave their time and expertise so generously.

You will be informed very soon.

Farewell Speeches

Here is the extract to our parent community & to our children...

Thank you to our parents who give up their time and are involved in the school in so many ways such as: School Advisory Council, Parents and Friends, helpers and supporters at school sports events and other activities. The way that you place your trust and support in our staff to do the very best for the children is shown through your positive attitude too. You are the role models for your children and set the tone for respectful relationships in all that you do. Your uplifting messages of affirmation enable all of us to strive to do our utmost for your children.

And finally to our children..

THANK YOU for your beautiful and inspiring messages of learning, laughter and love and the many moments we have shared together since Term 4 2016.

Always believe in yourselves and the goodness in your hearts. Don’t let anyone upset you through their words or actions. Continue to do what is right and always, yes, always be kind, thoughtful and thankful to your friends and family members. You will be blessed in abundance and you will shine in all that you do at St Pat’s, at high school and beyond.

I look forward to coming and visiting you, checking how your learning is going, meeting the new principal and most of all, going for a run around the Michelle Barclay running track with you too.

Two Change 2 flourish posts summing up the work of our staff from the last few years from Jenny:

This post includes some presentations from our staff around the wonderful work that they are doing to ensure the best learning outcomes for our children. It also includes accolades from the Closure Day facilitators.

This post shares the link between learning and the positive outcomes form our students.

Community Update #2.9

A message for families from Pope Francis during the month of June from the Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network.

Please note that on the last day of term ( Friday 24 June), we have a whole school mass in the church for the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We won't have morning prayers on that morning but you are most welcome to join us in the church for mass.

...Learners leave St Patrick's self motivated ready to make a positive impact on their world....
A reflection from Jenny; a story of a Year 5 class and the impact of teaching and learning and the school's vision and values in action.

Parent Meetings

Thank you to our staff and parents who made the change to the online meetings as requested. Feedback so far around reports and interviews is overwhelmingly positive. Please direct any further feedback to principal@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au

End of term
This is a reminder that school will finish at 1pm on Friday for the end of term.

Sibling Enrolments 2023

We are currently processing enrolments for 2023.  Here is a link to the enrolment form. Please complete and return to the office as soon as possible or pick up a hard copy from the front office.

Tapping into parent expertise

Part of the school's vision is to value the skills that our parent's can offer.. tap into the expertise of our parents and carers. In the past few years, we have had different working groups eg. Cultural, Grants, Health & Safety, Child Safety. These working groups replaced the POPE forums and allowed an opportunity for parents to contribute their skills and voice to strengthen the activities at school.

The Faith & Community team have prepared an invitation for parents to share their skills to support teaching and learning. For example, when teaching about Civics and Citizenship, having parents or community members who work in Government or for the Council are rich sources of information to include in our children's learning.

You can access the form at this link.

Musical Showcase of Learning

Years 3 to 6 and the Choir

On Friday, June 24th, commencing at 11.15am, Students in Years 3 to 6 and the Choir will be performing items they have learnt in Music this year.

Years Prep, 1 and 2 will be in the audience for these performances. Unfortunately, due to COVID 19 restrictions, parents are not able to attend. However, if it is possible, a video will be taken of each performance next week during music lesson time. These can then be viewed at home.

Students in Years 3 - 6, and the choir, have been rehearsing for this event and are very excited to perform to an audience!

Sporting News
This week, many of our Year 5/6's competed at the Dendy Lightning Premierships against schools within our district. Some very keen and athletic students even competed in more than one event.
Soccer Lighting Prem
We took a boys team and girls team on Wednesday down to Dendy Park, East Brighton. The boys were coached by Mr Daidone and gave it a solid crack, however they were up against some extremely tough competition. Our girls team were coached by Miss Currenti and they finished in grand final spot against St Joan of Arc. The girls ended up in an exciting over time penalty shoot out battle. Unfortunately we didn't come away with the win, but it was a superb effort by all and they should be extremely proud of their efforts. A huge thank you to Greg Blair Smith for umpiring on the day and Luke and Isabel for coaching.
Netball Lightning Prem
On Thursday we took 3x netball teams across to Duncan McKinnon to compete in the A Grade Girls (Coached by Gabby Parr), Mixed A (Coached by Miss Trott) and Mixed B team (Coached by Pip). All three teams fought it out on the court and displayed some excellent skills and team work. Overall our A-Girls finished 3rd, A-Mixed finished 5th and B-Mixed finished 3rd. Well done to all and a huge thank you to LSO Lucy for umpiring, Pip and Gabby for coaching.
AFL Lightning Prem
On Friday we took 1xteam to DW Lucas, East Malvern to compete and run around in some very wet and tough conditions. Our boys and girls fought hard, kicked a few snags and had a great day. They were coached by our very own VFLW superstar Miss Currenti. St Pats finished in 3rd position. Well done to all players and thank you to Isabel for coaching the day.
