Covid Update #6 Forum Feedback, Community Support & Flexible Learning

Thank you for attending yesterday's forum with the Department of Health (DH).

I understand that this is a concerning time for many of you. As promised, we have further clarification in relation to the questions.

DH has confirmed that all students are considered primary close contacts. If they have not already been tested, all students must be tested.

All students are to quarantine for 14 days.

All household members are considered secondary close contacts SCC. Household members do not need to be tested (although it is recommended) unless:
  • they start to develop symptoms, or
  • the primary close contact returns a positive result, or
  • they are instructed by DH
All household members are also to quarantine for 14 days.

If you need clarification specific to your circumstances or have further questions not addressed on the questions, please contact the DH Coronavirus hotline on 1800675398. This hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Cleaning at the school is progressing and a return to school is planned for July 30.

We have several generous offers of support for our school families from the wider community. These offers are included in the information below.

Information with regards to Flexible and Remote Learning is also available below.

Thank you for all of the support you have given the school, and each other, during this difficult time.

I want to assure you that St Patrick's school will continue doing everything we can to contain and slow the spread of the virus and ensure the health and safety of our whole school community.

Please email me if you have any further queries principal@spmurrumbeena.catholic.edu.au

Glen Eira City Council Pandemic Response

Local Support

Glen Eira City Council have a COVID-19 Hotline for the community to access information, advice and support about COVID-19 between 8am and 9pm, including over the weekend. Glen Eira residents can contact 9524 3733.

Our COVID-19 Community Relief and Recovery Support Directory aims to help the Glen Eira community know what support services are out there — State and local services for food; personal hardship; psychosocial; accommodation, pharmaceutical assistance, health services, medical transport and more. https://www.gleneira.vic.gov.au/about-council/covid-19/covid-19-community-support

We have Community Connect booklet available for the community which lists community organisations across Glen Eira that offer a range of community programs and support. Please see the link: https://www.gleneira.vic.gov.au/services/community-support/community-connections-and-contacts

Food/Essential Relief

Council have the ability to provide food relief to those in mandatory isolation, who require essential items that aren’t covered in the red cross food relief process, and for those who don’t have friends or family that can access essential items for them. We receive referrals through Red Cross directly, and can also triage from the community when they ring the local Glen Eira COVID-19 Hotline. Essential items can also include medications.

Individuals who are self-isolating can order urgent food for delivery through online food delivery platforms – who offer contactless delivery. Some food delivery apps can also deliver supermarket items. Most major supermarkets offer a delivery service.

School Community Engagement

Glen Eira City Councils Early Years and Libraries Team, we have emailed St Patrick’s Primary School to provide links directly to resources available on Glen Eira websites for children, families and teachers, and invited them to contact us if there are other supports or resources we could offer the school and families.  The team are also poised to assist in other ways such as activating online activities. We are hoping to work with the school to assist in this area.

Communications

Additionally, we can assist by addressing COVID Communications through our online and social media platforms where required.

We would like to get a feel for what the school community needs at this time and work with you where ever we can.

Kind Regards,

Laura Bales

Pulse 8 Centre
In some good news... we have an opportunity to support our teachers and school families with FREE online exercise classes, kindly donated by Pulse8 Centre who are located down the road from school. They're big believers in supporting their local community and are happy to provide this generous offer.

Thought this would be a nice thing to offer the St Pats families & teachers to help with their mental and physical health during isolation.

Joss Holdsworth and Cory Hargrave, owners of the gym, would like to share the link, password and timetable (Pilates, HIIT, StrengthFit) with you for consideration.

Please find below the Pulse8 online timetable, and here is the link (password: P8ONLINE).

An overview of the classes for you too:
  • Strength & Conditioning (S&C): Focuses on movement and form of exercises, using combinations of strength and mobility training
  • High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): Cardio training
  • StrengthFIT (S-FIT): A combination of strength training and cardio
  • Pilates: Mat Pilates focusing on increasing your stability, balance and basic strength!
Of course, please feel free to pass on our email also as we’re happy to answer any questions directly.
info@pulse8centre.com

Joss said everyone is welcome to join a class - we see parents, kids and dogs having fun with the classes online!

The classes aren’t specifically designed for children but they’re safe enough for all to do. Please ensure an adult is nearby to support kids from a safety perspective.

Anything we can do for your community?
Hi Jenny,

I'm the local community development worker. I saw the news and just wanted to acknowledge how hard this time is for your community. I was thinking that your usual supports for families might not be happening with with all those families self isolating for 14 days. So I thought I'd reach out. I'm connected with a few different groups and services. If there is anything anyone needs please let me know!

Kind regards,

Ann Van Leerdam

We are here to help those from St Patrick's in quarantine as they have supported us during the years.

Flexible and Remote Learning Guidelines

Firstly I would like to explain that all of us, including the staff, are self-isolating for 14 days. Due to the fact that we were requested to evacuate the school within the hour, the staff had no time to gather resources for Flexible Learning apart from their laptops. At that point, we weren't aware that we would have to quarantine at home. We aren't able to return onto the school premises to access resources.

Just like you, many of our teachers have personal challenges within their own family situations.

Despite all of this, our staff are ready and looking forward to reconnecting with your children on Monday morning. Their first priority will be checking in with the children from a pastoral perspective.

Prep / Foundation: Information available via Flexischools post directly to you and on the Foundation part of the Flexible Learning page in readiness for Monday morning. There will be two Zoom sessions each day 10am and 12pm.

Year 1 - Year 6: Daily learning will be available on the Flexible Learning section of the Year level tab of the Learning Community Site. There will be a minimum of two Zoom sessions each day generally at 9am and 1pm. These times will be flexible according to your child's teacher. Small group literacy and numeracy sessions will commence on Tuesday.

Thursdays will be the Specialist day and activities can be accessed on the Specialist pages of the Learning Community Site.

Extra wellbeing activities will be arranged for the afternoons.

As always, parents please ascertain what works for you and your children. We respect your decisions around this. Everyone's circumstances are different, especially with all of us in quarantine.

This is more that a lockdown for all of us.

We are all in self-isolation and definitely all in this together.

Stay safe and well,

Jenny Hawkins
Principal
