Week 4 Term 1 2020

Ash Wednesday Mass 9am Wednesday 19th February
The whole school will attend mass on Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is one of the most popular and important holy days in the liturgical calendar. Ash Wednesday opens Lent, a season of fasting and prayer.

Ash Wednesday takes place 46 days before Easter Sunday, and is chiefly observed by Catholics, although many other Christians observe it too.

Ash Wednesday comes from the ancient Jewish tradition of penance and fasting. The practice includes the wearing of ashes on the head. The ashes symbolise the dust from which God made us.

Priests administer ashes during Mass and all are invited to accept the ashes as a visible symbol of penance. Everyone is welcome to receive the ashes. The ashes are made from blessed palm branches, taken from the previous year's Palm Sunday Mass.

Confirmation Workshop
Thank you to the families who supported the interactive workshop on Wednesday. Special thanks to Natalie La Fontaine, Jo Guscott and Marg O'Dwyer who ran the workshop. Please keep the Year 6 confirmants in your prayers as they prepare to make the Sacrament of Confirmation on the 7th May.

Parent Teacher Meetings Wednesday February 26th
Bookings for Parent/Teacher meetings are open.  Thank to everyone who has booked so promptly.  To make bookings please go to the "interviews" tab in Flexibuzz.

Dendy Tennis Trials Results
Last Friday, we had two students represent St Patrick's School at the Dendy Tennis Trials held here at St Pats tennis club. Lachlan (Year 5) and Patrick (Year 6) were selected and displayed outstanding efforts all day, competing against other schools within the district. Both boys played a total of 5 games each under hot and tiring conditions. Lachlan finished his matches undefeated in his pool, and Patrick finished in 3rd position in the same pool. Lachlan earned his spot going through to the semi final, where he was matched up against a year 6 student. Lachlan put up a good fight but unfortunately lost 0-4 and did not go through to the next stage. The boys were outstanding and we would like to congratulate them both on their amazing efforts and persistence throughout the day.

CDF Pay - Cash - free platform
We understand there are many times when you may need to provide cash to your child to pay for fundraising and events. But cash isn’t the only option in today’s world; which is why we want to make it convenient for you to make payments.

We are introducing CDF pay which is a cash-free solution for our fundraising and event payments. This solution is an online payment platform offered by the Catholic Development Fund Melbourne (CDF).

We will be encouraging all parents to use this simple, cash-free platform in the future. Please be assured that we will not turn away parents/students who choose to pay via cash, however to ensure the success and drive the full benefits of this program we encourage your participation.

The benefits of our school going cash-free with CDFpay are:
  • Greater security: a safer option where you don’t have to be concerned about your child losing cash from their bags and pockets.
  • Anytime, any device: order and pay for fundraising and events from your mobile, tablet or computer at any time.
  • Fast & easy payments: it allows credit card or bank transfer payments. Stored credit cards make the process of payments faster and easier than ever.
  • Reduced administration: counting and handling cash is costly for the school. CDF pay will help eliminate admin fees so we can better distribute funds for other activities.
We look forward to working with you as we implement CDF pay in our school community.

If you have any questions, please contact Kellie in the school office.
